[Review] common labs - Ggultamin B Real Jel Mask + First Impression

As I was browsing through Althea shopping website, I came across this sheet mask from common labs which has gained much attention since launching. Apparently it is a trendy item in South Korea and quite popular among bloggers too!

Continue reading on my journey as I try on this sheet mask and share my first impression.

This is a two-step sheet mask. Very convenient especially for travelling.

Step 1 is a mild peeling pad (here they refer as "finger pad") which contains AHA and BHA that help to exfoliate dead skin cells chemically. The skin is able to absorb nutrients more efficiently after dead skin cells have been removed.

You will find the finger pad folded in half once opened the packet (as below).

Unfold the peeling pad. You may notice an obvious scent. It is quite a pleasant scent; anyhow it is artificial fragrance. Just take note, that's all. :')

Finger pad, in fact, it has a finger-pocket which you could slip your fingers into for better grip.

From the outlook, I can't really tell which one is the front or back of the finger pad. What I can tell is, there is one side which is slightly smoother than the other. The rule is, to use the embossing side (rougher side) for exfoliation, then proceed to clean up with the smooth side.

Since I wasn't wearing any makeup, the result wasn't obvious. For my case, I only noticed some dirt and fine hair being collected on the peeling pad (below circled in red).

Moving to Step 2 which is a jelly mask pack which contains Propolis extract that helps to improve skin moisture and skin barrier. Meanwhile, it also contains Vitamin B that helps to protect and calm sensitive skin.

How to use (in Korean)

Reason why it is named after "Real Jel Essence"? (or, Real Gel Essence; they literally translated from Korean pronounciation)

The answer? Have a look at the thick and jelly-like texture essence. :D (as below)

The truth is, this is my very first time seeing this type of essence in a mask pack! The sheet mask is richly soaked in the jelly essence! It feels so different from the watery essence type of mask sheets.

Also, this is my first time knowing Lyocell Sheet. Well according to common labs, this thin cellulose fibre-made sheet mask has minimum irritation and will serve as a smooth coat on top of the skin, sealing the goodness.

According to Simplifi Fabric, Lyocell is an eco-frabric that not only has natural breathability, but also 50% greater moisture absorption than cotton. Due to its moisture management, lyocell is also anti-bacterial. Besides that, Lyocell is more expensive than most eco-fabric alternatives.  source


Leave it for 10-20 minutes.

I am already into its jelly-like texture right from the start. Indeed it could provide much lasting moisture without feeling too much or heavy on the skin. Even though I left it more than 20 minutes, the sheet mask is still "juicy".

As for the sheet mask itself, it is very comfortable to wear. Soft and adhesive on skin.

Definitely an excellent first impression! :D
